ABOUT ME

Hello! My name is Mamie, and I was born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas.

I’m a naturopathic doctor (ND) and functional medicine practitioner, certified yoga instructor, Reiki practitioner, full-time Chinese medicine and acupuncture student, and the owner and founder of DrMamie.com.

I help women overcome hormone imbalances, gut dysfunction, and autoimmunity using nutrition, natural therapies and a root cause approach.

I understand what it's like to feel bad and not get the help you need!

For nearly twenty years, I struggled with uncomfortable and unpredictable gut dysfunction that negatively impacted my energy, weight, mood, brain function, skin health, hormones, and immune system.

Every month for more than a decade, I experienced intensely painful menstrual cramps and a heavy flow that caused me to become anemic on multiple occasions.

For almost ten years, I suffered from an incredibly itchy skin rash that would appear on my shins, calves, elbows, and sometimes my abdomen.

I saw various doctors over the years; they meant well and did what they were trained to do—prescribe pharmaceuticals.

Although I experienced a minor reduction in my symptoms, my health issues never went away…and new problems emerged including hypothyroidism and adrenal dysfunction.

By my mid-twenties, I had basically given up on conventional medicine…

…but I never gave up on my body’s ability to heal!

I instinctively knew that my digestive dysfunction, hormone imbalances, and chronic skin rash could be resolved with the right approach and support.

Fast forward several years to 2007 when the concept of “naturopathic medicine” found me!  I fell in love instantly, so I moved to Portland, Oregon that fall to study naturopathic medicine at National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM).

HEALTH IS POSSIBLE!  I'LL SHOW YOU HOW.

I know from experience that you can heal your body with food, lifestyle changes, and high-quality nutritional and herbal products, and my mission is to empower and support you to reach all your health goals!

TRAINING & HEALING PHILOSOPHY

My time at NUNM forever shaped my understanding of health and disease.  I learned that:

  • Symptoms are the body’s way of communicating the presence of dysfunction and imbalance.  They are clues, the body’s way of saying “something’s not right; this isn’t working for me, do things differently.”

  • Symptoms in different parts of the body are connected and should be interpreted within the context of the whole picture.

  • The body wants to be healthy and will move towards health when barriers are removed and the right support is given.

  • You can’t “take away” disease by quieting symptoms; to achieve lasting wellbeing, you must add health.

  • Dietary and lifestyle choices play a HUGE role in overall health (and therein lies the power!).
